Are the mugs totally black when cold? | Not totally. A faint smoky image can be made out when cold. |
| At what temperature does the design start to light up? |
About 40 degrees Centigrade. Just add boiling water to make a cup of tea, and the design is revealed within a few seconds as the mug heats up. It fades to black as you finish your drink and the mug cools down again.
|
| Does anything else happen when you add hot water? |
People tend to go 'Wow' when they see them for the first time. Sometimes they pour the water back out and in so they can see the colours change again.
|
| Are they really poisonous? |
No,of course not. Our mugs are totally safe to drink from. (Unless of course you actually PUT cyanide, nuclear waste, et. al. in them). Heat sensitive mugs have been ordered in tens of thousands by big companies for promotions. They wouldn't hand out anything dangerous to their customers, would they now?
|
|
There's nothing funny about Anthrax et. al. Aren't you just being really juvenile and tasteless for the sake of it?
| Erm, guilty as charged. |
| Will they last? | Yes. The mugs are as durable as any high quality household mug. Barring dropping them on the floor, they will last for years.
|
| Can we put them in the dishwasher? | The dishwasher is not recommended. Nothing dramatic happens, but they gradually start to fade.
|
| What about the microwave? | A quick zap in the microwave is fine. But don't do it for minutes at a time, otherwise the image can blur.
|
| How do they work? |
On Poison Mugs, the design is printed under a special black thermochromic coating. This coating becomes transparent when heated, revealing the design beneath. Becuase both the coating is black and the design's background is black, it gives the impression that the design is appearing, rather than the coating disappearing.
|
| You say Frequently Asked Questions, but does anyone actually ask them? | IAQs (Infrequently Asked Questions) would be a better abbreviation. One bloke did call and ask whether we would pass his name on to any spam lists, hence the 'FAQ' about mailing lists near the bottom, though.
|
| Aargh! They're pricey. |
We charge £9.95 per mug, plus a flat rate p&p charge of £2.95 (in the UK - more for elsewhere) , no matter how many you order. The heat sensitive process is a good deal dearer to manufacture than your average mug, but the effect is well worth it. Remember, there are discounts (and no extra postage) for ordering a few at a time.
|
| Can you print heat-sensitive mugs with my own design? | Yes, we do custom jobs. The minimum order quantity is 32 and the process takes around 4 weeks from start to finish, including production of a sample. Every job is different, so please contact us for a quote. |
| Can I buy them in shops? |
Nope. Here only. If you own a shop and want to sell them, we would be delighted to hear from you. |
| Whaddya mean 'Ironing Board Covers' |
We also sell heat-sensitive ironing board covers. When you pass a hot iron over the model's towel / bikini, it disappears to reveal all beneath. They're made of heat-reflecting metallic fabric (so good for ironing) and cost £14.95 each. The female version features glamorous model/mother/cancer patient Jordan. |
| How long for delivery? |
We use 1st or 2nd class Recorded Delivery for the majority
of orders. Generally, we put them in the post the next working day after you order.
Bigger orders (8 and over) go via the Parcelforce 48hr service. Somebody has to
be home to receive the package otherwise the postman will put a card through your
door. If the mugs don't arrive within a week, contact
us and we will yell at the Post Office and if necessary, send more. International orders (outside the UK) go Airmail, which takes a week or so. |
|
Will they arrive in one piece?
| Mugs are posted in polystyrene mug-boxes specially designed to withstand the post. If they don't arrive in one piece, contact us and we will instantly send you another. |
| Are all the customer comments real? | Yes of course they're real! |
|
They're a gift. I want to send them to a friend.
| No problem. There's boxes at the end of the order form for this. Type the delivery name and address in the first box, followed by your message in the next box. If you want it to arrive on your friend's birthday, give us a date in the third box. The message will be printed on the back of a gift tag. Remember to put your name at the end of the message - if you want your friend to know who it's from. |
| How secure is your website? I don't just type my credit card details into any old website. | Extremely secure. The Poison Mugs website doesn't actually collect your payment details. After taking your order details, we hand you over to our payment partner World Pay who specialise in taking money over the web. Alternatively, you can send us a cheque in the post or order over the phone. Click here for contact details.
|
| You're not going to sell my details on to one of those spam mailing list companies are you? | Perish the thought. We take your name, e-mail and telephone number just in case there's a problem with your order. We are not about to sell our customer list to anyone else. (Not that anyone has tried to buy them, actually.) However, should we at Poison Mugs release any more fine tasteless products, we would more than likely send you an e-mail about them. Hope you don't mind. If you do, tell us not to. |
| Does anyone actually read this stuff all the way to the bottom? | Yup, you do. If you have read all the way to the bottom, type "Yup, I read all the FAQs" into the Deliver Somewhere Else box at the bottom of the order form and we will send you a free mystery gift with your order. Really. |
